When you are looking for the thesis statement, you can usually find it with in the first paragraph. It should tell you exactly what message the writer is trying to covey. I look at the title first that will give me an idea of what the writing may be about. I than will quickly read the first paragraph to find the thesis statement. There may be times where it is not that simple, this is when I will proof read the article and see if there is even a thesis, it may have been left out but there should be some idea to the writing.

Very informative post, right to the point. If the thesis statement is not within the beginning of the paper, we do have to read the entire document to then find the main point.
ReplyDeleteTim thats true that there are times the thesis can be found in the first paragraph, however there is also times the thesis can be found in the middle of the paper, or even times the thesis can be found at the end of the paper.
